Blogging holiday

New blog posts will become a little harder from the weekend as Hardworker 1 (me) will be away on holiday for a couple of weeks, searching for exciting new whiskies to feature as well as having a good time trying out other people's whisky (!) and generally relaxing.

The good news is that the www.prestigewhisky.com website remains open for business as usual with one of my minions on customer fulfillment duty. You're also still able to feedback into either the website or this blog on the usual e-mail address : info@prestigewhisky.com

I'll also be checking the blog regularly and may even manage a small post or two on my travels !

More on my exciting travels on my return

Bolding entering the sub continent

We have just introduced our new range, 'Whiskies of the World', at present it consists of a grand total of two expressions from new (for us) distillery : Amrut from india, there's the Cask Strength at £ 34.99 and then the Peated Cask Strength at £ 39.99.

There is a cornucopia of other whisky (and of ocurse whiskey !) from around the world to come in this new departure for us.

Keep checking back for more information.

IWSC Award wins for Glenglassaugh

You'll no doubt remember that we added a range of Glenglassuagh whiskies to www.prestigewhisky.com recently. We proud to announce that at the recent International Wine and Spirit Competition (IWSC) that Glenglassaugh was a major winner, here are full details within their Press Release :

Glenglassaugh Distillery scoops top Trophies

Leading international spirits competition awards Glenglassaugh 30 & 40 years old single malt Scotch whisky flagship Trophies and Gold Medal (best in class) at Anniversary Awards.

The Glenglassaugh Distillery Company is delighted to announce that on 16th July the world’s premier independent spirits competition, the International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC), awarded Gold Medals (Best in Class) to its 30 and 40 years old Highland single malt Scotch whiskies.

Remarkably, at the first time of entering the renowned competition, the whiskies achieved additional awards winning the IWSC’s flagship award for the best 40 year old Scotch whisky while the 30 year old expression collected the Trophy for best cask strength Scotch whisky.

IWSC awards are keenly contested. The judging is blind and conducted by a highly qualified and internationally renowned panel of independent judges. To achieve gold medal status each whisky must undergo a series of sampling with only the top-scoring products in each category achieving ‘best in class’. Only the highest ranked whisky is awarded the prestigious Trophy. For 2009 a special Trophy for 40 Year Old Whisky was created to mark the IWSC’s 40th Anniversary and this was keenly contested.

The prestigious, signature award was the only whisky trophy presented at a special 40th Anniversary Celebration Dinner at Hopetoun House, near Edinburgh and was collected by Glenglassaugh’s Managing Director, Stuart Nickerson.

He said:

“One of the reasons behind the decision to purchase and re-open Glenglassaugh was our evaluation of the outstanding quality of the whisky. We’re absolutely delighted that the IWSC have endorsed our judgement with their flagship award for Scotch whisky and we look forward to further success with our new products.”

“To win 2 Gold (Best in Class) was a significant achievement. To collect both of the major whisky trophies is an exceptional accolade for Glenglassaugh.”

Add value to your business

Calling all business owners.

As a new small business Prestige Whisky is very aware that consumers demand more than simply their goods and a flashy website.

We must strive to add value for our customers wherever we can.

We've recently hit upon the idea of working with other companies to provide them with a special range of whisky (full size bottles or miniatures) that they can offer to their customers following a high value purchase or completion of a contract. This kind of reciprical sales and marketing opportunity is one that we're happy to discuss with fellow business owners. We might also be able to set up some reciprical web links that add value to our seo efforts too.

If you want more details of how we can 'help each other' and of course offer you and your clients the best in malt and blended whisky drop me an e-mail, info@prestigewhisky.com or go into the 'contact' tab at www.prestigewhisky.com

Casks, wood and palate's

Here’s little something for the geeks amongst you who wanted to know what size barrels were used to distil whisky! But more importantly – how the barrel and the flavour it adds to the malt is derived and how palate’s are increasingly coming to expect to find it.

“Butts"

Casks which are used for the maturation of sherry are typically known as butts. They have a capacity of 500 litres which is the equivalent of 110 UK gallons or 132 US gallons.

"Hogshead"

A hogshead is referring to the traditional cask size of 250 litres which is equivalent of 55 UK gallons or 66 US gallons.

"Barrel"

The American white oak barrel is sometimes used to indicate a ‘bourbon barrel’. This usually has a capacity of approximately 200 litres and is equivalent to 44 UK gallons or 53 US gallons

Over time many of the malt whisky distilleries have experimented with wood finishes with a range of success. The phrase "wood finish" indicates that the whisky was first matured in either bourbon or sherry wood butts but that is then re-racked.This maturation process often lasts for an extra half year or so but some finishes may extend this for up to two years.

Today, the value of this wood flavoured element that is added to the nose, flavour and general aroma of a malt seems to be an increasing expectation for the palates of the whisky enthusiast.

Just found an excellent website - an internet tv channel devoted to our favourite subject.

Check out www.singlemalt.tv, it's an American site, sot there's obviously a slant towards bourbon but lots of cools shows and content relevant to any whisky lover.

Exciting news - Oldest ever, Old Pulteney on PW !

We're delighted to announce that the latest and oldest ever expression from Old Pulteney is now available at www.prestigewhisky.com

Old Pulteney’s senior brand manager, Iain Baxter says :

“We are really excited about the launch of our oldest ever Old Pulteney. This whisky has been looked after at the distillery for 30 years and the age contributes a huge amount of complexity. It has all the hallmarks of Old Pulteney; spice and green apples, and sweet vanilla and coconut notes from the American Oak. But unusually for such an old whisky there’s a remarkable touch of tropical fruit on the nose – some people have picked up guavas and mangos! I’d say that for a malt whisky with so much age and depth, it’s still incredibly approachable.”

Prestige Whisky says – we’re really lucky to have access to this exceptional Highland malt !

This exceptional expression is only available from specialists outlets so order now to ensure you receive yours !

Hello to our new visitors in Australia, India, Norway, Sweden, Germany, France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Canada.

Please keep visiting and telling your friends and colleagues if you like the website and this blog. One of the real challenges for this business is to drive traffic, improve google rankings and so figure more highly in the kinds of searches that potential buyers do on the internet. Every time you visit us you give us a little helpling hand - thanks !

Even if you don't buy anything from the site, you're helping us establish a credible presence on-line. Remember as well that to me this project isn't all about just selling whisky.
